① 上杉本洛中洛外図屏風（右隻・部分）
　　"Scenes in and around Kyoto, Uesugi Version" (from the right-hand screen)

京の都を俯瞰し、洛中（市中）と洛外（郊外）の四季と、そこに暮らす人々の生き生きとした生活風俗が豪華に、そして緻密に描かれています。動物、植物、建築物、祭り、そして老若男女、身分、職業を問わないおよそ2,500人もの人物が所狭しと盛り込まれ、活趣に富んだ画面を創り出しています。
1574（天正2）年に織田信長から上杉謙信へ贈られたと伝えられ、以後米沢藩上杉家に伝来したという由来を持ち、1995（平成7）年に国宝に指定されました。

From a bird's-eye view of Kyoto, the screens show people's life in various areas in and around the capital in the four seasons. The rich variety of numerous subjects, including animals, plants, buildings, festivals as well as about 2,500 people of all ages, social statuses and professions, are lavishly and vividly rendered in detail, creating joyous and lively scenes

This pair of screens is said to have been presented by Oda Nobunaga to Uesugi Kenshin in 1574. After that, the screens were handed down through the generations of the Uesugi family of the Yonezawa fief. They were designated by the Japanese government as a national treasure in 1995.
